What DocIt is
DocIt is an Android app that scans and keeps your important documents on your phone: IDs, vehicle documents, insurance policies, bills and warranties. It reads each document on the phone, fills in its details, shows what is about to expire and keeps the files encrypted on the phone.

Who it's for
People who look after the family's documents, often for their parents too: ID cards, a driver's license, passports, health insurance cards, car registration and insurance, receipts and warranties. DocIt uses local document names and date order in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and India, and general ones in other countries. It fits if you want them on your phone when someone asks for them, and want a nudge before something lapses.
We also write plain, sourced guides on these jobs, such as how to scan documents with your Android phone and when to renew your passport.
What it does
- Scans with automatic edge detection and crop, plus clean-up, rotate and filters. Up to 20 pages go into one PDF.
- Imports photos and PDFs you already have, and reads them too. Password-protected PDFs can't be read yet.
- Reads the document on your phone and fills in the name, ID number and expiry date. You check them and tap Save.
- Watches dates. Each document shows Valid, Expiring or Renew now. Your phone reminds you 30, 7 and 1 day before an expiry date. No sign-in needed; they run when you turn reminders on and allow notifications.
- ID wallet. Tap to copy an ID number into a form, even offline.
- Folders up to three levels deep, also inside categories. Find a document by its name, type, ID number or description.
- Bills. Keep bills, invoices and receipts on their own shelf, with amounts in US, Canadian and Australian dollars, pounds, euros and rupees. A warranty or valid-till date is read when it is printed on the bill.
- Insurance. On a health or car insurance policy, DocIt shows common benefits, such as a free health check-up or roadside assistance, and the page to check.
- Lost wallet. Lists the next steps for the documents you saved, links to the official pages, and makes a police-report summary you can share, with numbers masked. You block cards or replace IDs on the bank's or issuer's own site or app.
- Checklist of the documents most families in your country need, and which ones you still have to add.
- Family. Add the people you look after. When you save a document, DocIt asks whose it is, so a parent’s policy never counts as yours, and each person has their own Cover page.
- Vehicles. Your car or bike’s registration, insurance and other car documents sit together on one vehicle card, with the status of each.
- Flights. Save a flight e-ticket or itinerary and see the flight, times and route, with the days left until you fly.
- Travel insurance. On a travel insurance policy, DocIt shows common benefits, such as medical cover abroad or lost baggage, with the page to check.
- Tax documents checklist (in India for now), filled from the documents you have already saved. DocIt lists documents only; it never gives tax advice.
- App lock with your fingerprint or PIN. Light and dark theme.
Free tools on this website
Next to the app, docit.one has free PDF and image tools. Each one runs in your browser, so your files are not uploaded. No sign-up, no watermark, no ads. They are separate from the Android app and don't use its scanner or text reading.
- Images to PDF: Turn photos into one PDF.
- Compress image to KB: Shrink a photo to 20, 50 or 100 KB for a form.
- Merge PDF: Join PDFs into one file.
- PDF to JPG: Save each page of a PDF as a JPG image.
- Split PDF: Take out the pages you need.
- Rotate, delete or reorder PDF pages: Fix sideways pages, delete or reorder them.
- Resize image: Set the exact size a form asks for.

How your documents are kept
- Every document is encrypted on your phone with AES-256-GCM before it is saved. The key is kept in the phone's secure storage (Android Keystore).
- DocIt has no server, so your documents never reach us. There is no DocIt account.
- No ads and no analytics of our own.
- Reading uses Google's ML Kit on your phone. ML Kit sends Google technical information such as phone model, app version and error codes. It does not send your images or the text in them.
- Document details you see in lists (names, types, ID numbers, dates) are kept in the app's private database without extra encryption. The files themselves are always encrypted.
- A document leaves your phone when you share it. There is an optional, encrypted backup to your own Google Drive (needs Google sign-in).
We say "encrypted on this phone" because that is exactly what DocIt does. Full details and limits
How DocIt compares
With scanner apps
Many scanner apps focus on making PDFs, and some save them to a cloud account. DocIt focuses on keeping your documents on your phone, reading their details and watching their dates. It has no PDF editing tools. Six scanner apps compared, with sources
With official ID apps
Some governments run apps that hold official digital documents, such as mobile driver's licenses in some US states or DigiLocker in India. DocIt is not a government app, and its copies are not official documents. They do different jobs: an official app for documents an issuer gives you, DocIt for your own copies of any document, including policies, bills and warranties, with their dates watched.
What DocIt doesn't do
- Not on the App Store yet. Not in the EU yet.
- No PDF tools in the app: it can't merge, split, compress, sign or edit PDFs, or add passwords. The free web tools merge, split, rotate and convert PDFs in your browser.
- No search inside the words of a document. Search covers name, type, ID number and description.
- Reads Latin script only, not scripts such as Arabic, Devanagari or Chinese. The app is in English.
- Family lives on your phone only: there is no sharing between phones yet. No AI chat.
- It doesn't block cards, replace IDs or renew anything for you. It tells you what to do and when.
- For car insurance policies, the end date isn't always read yet. Add or confirm the expiry date.
Questions people ask
Is DocIt safe?
DocIt encrypts each document on your phone with AES-256 before saving it, keeps the key in the phone's secure storage (Android Keystore), and lets you lock the app with your fingerprint or PIN. It needs no account, shows no ads, and we have no server, so your documents never reach us. Two limits to know: document details shown in lists, such as names and ID numbers, sit in the app's private database without extra encryption, and the Google scanner it uses sends Google technical diagnostics, never your images or the text in them.
Does DocIt upload my documents?
No. DocIt has no server, so your documents never reach us. They stay encrypted in the app on your phone unless you share one, or turn on the optional encrypted backup to your own Google Drive (needs Google sign-in).
Is DocIt free?
Yes. DocIt is free to download and use today, with no ads. There is no paid plan yet. If we add one, this page will say so.
Which countries is DocIt available in?
DocIt is on Google Play in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and India. It is not in the EU yet. It uses local document names and date order in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and India, and general ones elsewhere.
Is DocIt on Android or iPhone?
Android only, from Google Play. There is no iPhone app on the App Store yet.
How is DocIt different from Google Drive?
Google Drive keeps files in your Google account in the cloud, and its scanner saves scans there, so you can open them on any device and share folders. DocIt keeps documents encrypted on your phone with no account, reads each document's details such as the ID number and expiry date, and reminds you before something expires. Drive suits access from a computer and sharing; DocIt suits keeping IDs and policies on your phone with their dates watched. Many people use both.
Will DocIt remind me before my license or policy expires?
Yes. When you turn reminders on and allow notifications, your phone reminds you 30, 7 and 1 day before the expiry date saved on a document. No sign-in needed.
Does DocIt use AI?
DocIt reads documents with Google's on-device text recognition and fills in details such as the name, ID number and expiry date for you to check. Nothing is sent to a cloud AI.
Does DocIt have free online tools?
Yes. The DocIt website has 7 free tools that run in your browser: Images to PDF; Compress image to KB; Merge PDF; PDF to JPG; Split PDF; Rotate, delete or reorder PDF pages; Resize image. No sign-up, no watermark, no ads. They are separate from the Android app.
Do the DocIt web tools upload my files?
No. The tools run in your browser, on your device, and your files are not uploaded. We checked by recording every network request during real conversions, and by running each tool offline after it loaded.
Is DocIt a government app?
No. It is independent and not affiliated with any government body, licensing or transport authority, tax office or insurer. Copies in DocIt are not official documents.
